Adult Pirate Costumes

With Halloween fast approaching many people are looking for that ideal costume for the party or trick or treating. Pirate costumes have been a firm favorite for many years. Maybe it is the flamboyant costumes – the puffy shirt, the big hat with the peacock feather sticking out of it or the knee length boots that make us come out with silly phrases or have irresistible urges to have pretend sword fights. No matter what it is adult pirate costumes will always be popular around this time so here are a few choices to look at.

Pirate costumes can be split into three narrower themes. These are authentic looking outfits, scary pirate costumes and famous pirate character costumes. Of course there are outfits for both men and women. In the case of pirate costumes for women there tends to be another category that you could describe as sexy. The main aim of these outfits is to make you look alluring, flirtatious and the center of attention…oh and a little bit like a pirate. They are fun and titillating costumes more than trying to be a pirate outfit.

In terms of authentic pirate costumes, consider the elite pirate costume. His standard issue is a bandanna, sea tunic/jacket, puffy cream colored shirt, breeches and calf length boots with large cuffs to stop water getting in. He will have a belt and sash that he wears around the waist. If he was planning to raid another ship he might be armed with a flintlock pistol and a sword or cutlass.

In terms of scary pirate costumes, the Gravelords and characters returning form Davy Jones locker are ideal for having a scary looking pirate. These types of costumes are effectively a pirate costume with a skeleton mask or a ghoulish looking countenance. The clothing is virtually the same as  a regular pirate except that they may be gray or tattered to indicate the half dead or back form the dead nature of the character.

I shouldn’t take you long to figure out the type of pirate character costumes. Most of the pirates of the Caribbean movies have inspired many costumes, include Captain Jack Sparrow. Others include Captain Hook.

For females, there are plenty of authentic and scary costumes too. In fact there are probably as many pirate costumes for women as there are for men. It seems that everyone want to be a pirate at least once a year ! These types of costumes are very similar to the male costumes but with the odd feminine modifications, such as a skirt instead of breeches and a corset instead of a waistcoat.

With this said, there is a range of pirate type costumes that are unique for women. These are the  pirate wench type costumes. These are mainly alluring, sexy costumes with bits of pirate paraphernalia thrown in to give the outfit a touch of character. These are great costumes if you really want to make an impression at the party and are popular. In fact these types of sexy costumes are pretty much replicated over every theme you can think of, be it vampires, prisoner costumes, police outfits and many more.
