Adult Pirate Halloween Costume – Yeearrr, Pirates Can Be Scary Too

Adult Pirate Halloween CostumeThe way we see pirates these days (well pirates from the 17-18 century anyhow) are pretty much a characterture of the real people. I’ve often heard the phrase that pain plus time equals comedy. And that formula holds true of our views of pirates that sailed around the Caribbean in those times.

We play them for laughs if the pirates of the Caribbean movies are anything to go by. And as individuals when we dress up in pirate costumes we also play them for beer and giggles.

You know what I mean, I’ve even done it myself in the title. Saying “yeaarrr” and “shiver me timbers” and quaint old phrases like that. If I could rest a parrot on the shoulders of the title I’d  do that too. But without resorting to the comedy element of the pirate costume, you can also get scary costumes too.

Here are a selection of adult pirate Halloween costumes that are kind of scary.

The scary pirate costumes fit into our heartfelt need to dress up as a pirate but also fit into the general idea of scaring people at Halloween. It covers both bases in fact – talk about value for money !

pirate ghost faceMost of the scary costumes are lifted from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and creepy seafarin’ legends like the flying Dutchman and the Marie Celeste. These movies are generally family orientated action adventure epics with generous lashings of humor. But they also have elements of characters coming back from the dead (or Davy Jones Locker). In fact, Davy Jones comes back in one of the films and he’s a real corker. There is even a Davy Jones costume which is bound to get plenty of attention at any Halloween party.

Anyway, adult pirate Halloween costumes are basically the standard pirate outfit – bandanna, puffy shirt, sturdy breeches, eye patch, pirate hat, pistol, cutlass and the rest. The scary element comes in by wearing a ghostly mask or a skeleton mask. These masks are generally not full covered masks, put merely a face mask that you attach with an elastic band around the head.

More elaborate masks, like the Davy Jones mask give a better effect . Check out some more pirate Halloween costumes.

PS. I couldn’t resist putting a parrot into this post – Squawk..pieces of eight..squawk..pieces of eight.
